The Basics

What causes air pollution?

There are hundreds of different air pollutants emitted into the atmosphere from stationary sources (like factories and mills) as well as from mobile sources (like cars and trucks). The Department keeps the air clean by controlling and limiting the amount of air pollutants emitted.
